Hormones

Testosterone     (Metabolism)

Testosterone helps burn off fat and thus has a direct relationship with the body’s metabolism.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) (Metabolism)

Thyroid hormones including TSH are the primary regulators of your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). The higher your TSH, the lower your BMR. Thus, TSH plays a crucial role in your body’s energy expenditure and metabolism.

Cortisol     (Metabolism)

Cortisol plays an important role in the body’s metabolism. Cortisol mobilizes glucose, fats, and amino acids. In particular, it is involved in liver and muscle glycogenolysis.

DHEA Sulphate     (Metabolism)

DHEA is a crucial biomarker to test your metabolism. DHEA promotes the burning of fat by stimulating a process known as triacylglycerol hydrolysis in adipose tissue (fat storage) in the body.

Cholesterol

Triglycerides     (Metabolism)

After you eat, your body converts excess calories into triglycerides which are then transported to cells to be stored as fat. Your body then releases triglycerides when required for energy. Triglycerides are an important source of energy and can provide more energy than carbohydrates and proteins combined.

Total Cholesterol

Your total cholesterol level reflects your risk for heart disease. In general, the higher the level, the higher your risk.

LDL Cholesterol

LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol is a molecule that transports fats to various tissues throughout the body and can cause fatty deposits to accumulate inside artery walls, potentially leading to atherosclerosis and heart disease.

HDL Cholesterol

HDL cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein) is a molecule that removes cholesterol from the bloodstream and takes it to the liver to be broken down & removed from the body.

Vitamins

Vitamin D     (Metabolism)

Vitamin D can keep your hormone levels under control and may also help enhance weight loss and decrease body fat. Vitamin D is required to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphate. This is necessary for optimum cellular function in all cells of the body.

Vitamin B12     (Metabolism)

Vitamin B12 is important for the production of red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. B12 is also involved in metabolism and the nervous system. An optimum level of vitamin B12 is associated with a reduced risk of obesity.

Folate (Vitamin B9)

Folate is otherwise known as Vitamin B9 which is essential for DNA synthesis and red cell formation. Folate is also especially important during pregnancy and so monitoring is recommended.

Iron

Ferritin

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in your cells and tissues. Measuring ferritin levels gives us a good indication of the amount of iron stored in your body.

Proteins

Total Protein     (Metabolism)

Total Protein is the sum of the proteins albumin and globulin in your blood, which help in transporting nutrients and fighting infection.

Albumin     (Metabolism)

Albumin is a protein that helps hold water within the blood and carries nutrients, medications and other substances through the blood and is important for tissue growth and healing.

Globulin

Globulins are made in the liver by the immune system. Globulins play an important role in liver function, blood clotting, and fighting infection.

Liver health

Bilirubin     (Metabolism)

Bilirubin is a product of the breakdown of haemoglobin from red blood cells and is removed from the body via the liver. It causes the yellowish colour you sometimes see in bruises due to blood cells breaking down under the skin.

ALT     (Metabolism)

Alanine transferase (ALT) is an enzyme that is mostly found in the liver but is also found in smaller amounts in the heart, muscles and kidneys.

GGT     (Metabolism)

Gamma GT is a liver enzyme that is used in conjunction with ALP to distinguish between bone or liver disease. Gamma GT is also used to diagnose alcohol abuse as it is raised in 75% of long term drinkers.

ALP     (Metabolism)

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme found mainly in the liver and bones. Measuring it can indicate ongoing liver, gallbladder or bone disease.

Glucose

HbA1c (Diabetes)     (Metabolism)

Haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a longer-term measure of sugar levels in your blood over a three month period compared to a simple glucose test. The body’s metabolism is dependent on insulin levels in the body which are crucial for weight management.

Inflammation

CRP HS

CRP is an inflammation marker. When you suffer an injury or infection, you will experience inflammation where it occurred and this will cause your CRP-hs to rise.
